About

My name is Wendy Bird. I’m a Texas native who has found homes all over the globe as a writer, filmmaker, and adventurer. I have always had a wandering spirit but my relationship with traveling really began in the spring of 2014 when I bought a one-way plane ticket to London.

I didn’t have a guidebook when I shipped off to Europe with a single suitcase and no return ticket. I planned as I went and spent money as scarcely as possible and managed to experience 15 incredible countries over the course of 6 months before I hit my last dollar.

Europe Trip – 2014

All and all I spent $500 a month. That’s way less than I spend on rent, food, and bills living in the States. But I learned that beyond stretching out the cash in your wallet, traveling on a budget gives you insight into cultures that you will never find in a 5-star hotel.

Since my time in Europe, I have been perfecting my budget-traveling methods with various trips across the globe, including a month-long trip to India and nine months living on the road in the wild, American West.

In the past 3 years, I’ve yelled off the top of Mt. Esja, watched balloons light up the Berlin sky, crawled through mines in the desert of California, served food in an Albanian mountain hotel, been a Sheppardess in the green foothills of Oregon and walked barefoot through the Taj-Mahal among many more adventures.

In this blog, I will tell some of these stories… but I will also detail how I organize and plan my trips, some mistakes I’ve learned (the hard way) to avoid, and most importantly how I do it all on a super-low budget.

My hope is that anyone that wants to travel will feel empowered by this blog to get out there and do it. Just be careful… it’s addictive 😉
